National Hero Day – Rhōmaîoi Rite – 08 June 2023

From the Office of the Abuna, Catholicos, and Patriarch and the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Bunyoro – Kitara Kingdom

In the name of the Father of Lights, Our Master, Illuminator, and Savior, Jesus Christ, and the All-Holy Spirit, Amen.

On this day, 08 June 2023, we are called to remember the Hero of the Republic of Uganda, His Majesty, Omukama Chwa II Kabalega.

In the Byzantine Rite, a sovereign is believed to be called by the Divine to serve in their role with wisdom, compassion, and justice and His Majesty did just that.

In his wisdom His Majesty, Omukama Chwa II Kabalega, to ensure the prosperity of his people, sought and enhanced his kingdom by way of trade, especially the Kibiro Saltworks.

Showing his compassion; in 1879, The Kingdom, Bunyoro – Kitara under His Majesty, Omukama Chwa II Kabalega, was the only place in the world where the Caesarean section was performed to preserve the life of both the child and of the mother; in other areas, the mother’s life was often sacrificed for the child.

In an effort to embrace a philosophy of equality and justice for all of his subjects, regardless of traditional class, His Majesty, Omukama Chwa II Kabalega allowed for appointing of common persons to positions of responsibility. His Majesty, Omukama Chwa II Kabalega was known as an impartial ruler with a high sense of justice allowing complaints to be presented, and His Majesty would make a determination on them.

Let us all meditate on the works of His Majesty, and through our efforts support the Royal Family and the various vehicles of the Kingdom Bunyoro – Kitara and its people, the Banyoro, which our national hero, His Majesty, Omukama Chwa II Kabalega, ruled, served, and loved.

Amen.

In Christ and His Majesty, the Omukama’s Esteemed Service; your unworthy colleague,

+Cherubim Abu-Seifein Akiiki
