The Order of Saint Moses the Black was erected, founded and granted on 30 September 2018, on the Feast-day of Saint Jerome, to His Most Noble Highness, the Kyr Nobelissimos of Saint Moses the Black, by His Beatitude, +Cherubim Abu-Seifein Akiiki, under the Patriarchate of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom’s Constitution and Code of Canon Law and is registered by the Royal Office of Orders, Honors and Awards Affairs of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom as a valid Ecclesiastical and Chivalric Order of Merit. On 14 February 2019, the Feast-Day of Saint Valentine, administration of the Order was placed in the hands of the Holy Synod with His Most Noble Highness, the Kyr Nobelissimos of Saint Moses the Black retaining his position as temporal leader of the Order, the Sovereign Regent.
The Order of Saint Moses the Black, as an Ecclesiastical and Chivalric Order of Merit, operates under the Fons Honorum of His Most Noble Highness, the Kyr Nobelissimos of Saint Moses the Black as the Sovereign Regent of the Order, and is administered by The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, an Autocephalous Kievan Rus Byzantine/Oriental Apostolic Rite Sacramental Organization which celebrates Apostolic Christianity and Apostolic Chivalry with the practices, rites and sacraments of the various Kievan Rus Byzantine Rites ( Russian Orthodox, Ukrainian Orthodox and Belorussian Orthodox), as well as the African Oriental Christian Rites (Ethiopian Orthodox and Coptic Orthodox), as well as the Syrian Orthodox, the Old Catholic and the Armenian Apostolic Rites.
Persons are welcome to be members who share a common love for Christ and His Church and are enthusiastically willing to work and be supportive so that Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom and her people may continue their fight to reduce poverty, ensure the care of the poor, to improve the quality of health-care and to assist in providing a better life and greater opportunities, educationally and economically, for the orphans.
Each prospective member must be sponsored by a member of the Order. Prospective members who are clergy should apply directly to the Office of the Ecclesiastical Patron of the Order. A dedicated spiritual commitment is a prerequisite for membership in this Order.
This Ecclesiastical and Chivalric Order of Merit has five (5) Chivalric grades:

- Companion of the Order of Saint Moses the Black (COSMB)
- Dame/Knight of the Order of Saint Moses the Black (DOSMB / KOSMB)
- Dame/Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Moses the Black (DCOSMB / KCOSMB)
- Dame/Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Moses the Black (DGCOSMB / KGCOSMB)
and a Special Distinction –
- Dame/Knight Grand Cordon (DGCROSMB / KGCROSMB)
This Ecclesiastical and Chivalric Order of Merit also has four (4) Ecclesiastical grades.

Each grade having it’s own list of regalia that recipients are entitled to display. (see above for link to rank lists). The Order of Saint Moses the Black is open to those men and women of good character, who are supportive of the works of The Kingdom of Bunyoro – Kitara, The Royal Family, The Royal Institutions, and The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Bunyoro – Kitara Kingdom.
